Announcements of BACL
- (31st July 2006) The web site of the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics is speech enabled. All texts from the Bulgarian part of the site can be read aloud by our product
SpeechLab 2.0 Server. The unique language technology developed by the Association has made it possible the real time conversion of the texts on the web site to Bulgarian speech. The speech is transferred to
the users in the form of compressed audio stream, which makes it possible the fast and convenient play back on every modern personal computer. In this way our pages are easily accessible for people with
disabilities.
- (3th November 2005) The product SpeechLab 2.0 (Hear it! – In Bulgarian) for high quality speech synthesis of Bulgarian won first price in the
competition "IT Innovations 2005". The winners in the competition "IT Innovations 2005" have been awarded on the 3th of November at the exposition "Byte Expo 2005". The system SpeechLab
2.0 won the first price in the category "e-Communications".
- (20th October 2005) A presentation of Text-to-Speech system SpeechLab 2.0 took place on 20th of October in hall 200 of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informativs at the Sofia University.
SpeechLab 2.0 is the latest product of the Bulgarian Asociaction for Computational Linguistics. The project manager Dr. Stoyan Mihov made a demonstration and presented the software technologies and the mathematical methods used in the implementation. A large part of the presentation was given by the voice "Gergana" of the speech synthesizer.
- (24th March 2005) The Product SpeechLab 2.0 (Hear it! – In Bulgarian) for high quality speech synthesis of Bulgarian is ready.
After hard development work and detailed testing
the second edition of the SpeechLab software was completed successful. The Product is granted for free use from all people with visual impairments. The distribution of SpeechLab 2.0 for the people with visual
impairments is performed by the "Horizonti" Foundation and by the Union of the blinds in Bulgaria. More about the Product and the way of obtaining it can be found here.
- (30 September 2004) Microsoft made a donation to the Horizons Foundation for the purpose of assisting the access of the visually impaired people to the Information Technologies.
The
donation is intended for a project including building a modern IT learning centre in Sofia for visually impaired people, developing specialized software and a suitable interface for the speech synthesizer for
Bulgarian SpeechLabdeveloped by the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics, working out a syllabus, Brail teaching material and organizing computer literacy courses. The Bulgarian
Association for Computational Linguistics grants free licence for the SpeechLab system to visually impaired people all over the country.The product will be distributed by the Union of the Blind in Bulgaria and
the Horizons Foundation. The full press release can be found here.
- (24th September 2004) The Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics will particiate in the International Technical Fair - Plovdiv 2004.
The Bulgarian Association for
Computational Linguistics will participate in cooperation with the company Opencode in the International Technical Fair held in Plovdiv from September the 27th to October the 3th. The newest product of the
Association - the Bulgarian text to speech system SpeechLab will be demonstrated in Hall 8-I, A3, integrated in a telecom application developed in cooperation with Opencode.
- (29th March 2004) The new version of "ItaEst - Taka e!" has been released.
The new version includes an extended and corrected spelling correction dictionary. Almost 7500 additional
wordforms have been included and number of errors have been corrected in the dictionary.
- (17th February 2004) The Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics developed the unique software product "GrammLab" for precise and efficient Part-of-Speech tagging of Bulgarian
texts.
In result of intensive research in the Language technology area, the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics developed an unique in respect of its efficiency (160 KB/s) and preciseness
(>97.5%) part-of-speech tagger for Bulgarian. You can find more about it here.
- (12th January 2004) "ItaEst - Taka e!" will be officially presented on 15th of January at Sofia University.
On the 15th if January from 5 PM in Hall 200 of the Faculty of
Mathematics and Computer Science at Sofia University there will be held the following presentation: Research in the Language Technology: ItaEst - Spelling Correction and Hyphenation, Svetla Koeva and Stoyan

The product "ItaEst - Taka e!" consisting of spelling checker and hyphenator for Bulgarian, developed by the Bulgarian Associaction for Computational Linguistics is now available as freeware.
The
Bulgarian Association for Computational Lingistics officially releases its new product "ItaEst - Taka e!". The Product home page is located here. From this page you can get more
information about the product and download the instalation package. The package will be included in the CD-ROM in Vol. 1 from 2004 of "PC Magazine Bulgaria".
